How We Started:

Our organization was founded in 2018 following a global health forum on the status of refugees and refugee-related politics at the Rollins School of Public Health. The staggering statistics on underserved refugee and immigrant populations across the country, and particularly in the Georgia  community where the asylum grant rate is less than two percent, were humbling and inspired us to do our part.

Communities We Serve:

- Asylum Seekers: We work with local law firms and advocacy groups to provide physical and psychological evaluations for asylum seekers. The clinician conducting the evaluation reports findings in the form of a medical affidavit which can be used to support the asylum seeker’s claim. Our role as students is to connect providers and legal representatives and coordinate all components of the evaluation.

- Bond Letters for Individuals Detained: We work with the Southern Poverty Law Center Southeast Immigrant Freedom InitiativeI and Physicians for Human Rights to review medical records and write letters for individuals with medical conditions who are detained.. A team of physicians and students review the client's medical records , and document findings in the form of a letter which can be used by the legal team to support release on bond.

- Additional Efforts: Our future efforts will also focus on forensic evaluations for T visa, U visa and VAWA cases!
